Railway Zones & Divisions

Indian Railways is split into zones, and each zone into divisions. Search by zone name, city or division to find the headquarters and the year each zone was formed.

How to use it

1

Type a zone name, a city or a division in the search box.

2

Read the headquarters, the year formed and the list of divisions.

3

Clear the box to see all zones again.

Good to know

A zone is run by a General Manager from its headquarters, and each division inside it is run by a Divisional Railway Manager. Knowing the zone helps when you read a train name, a station sign or a railway notice.
The list shows 17 entries, including Kolkata Metro. Zones and divisions are sometimes reorganised, so check the official Indian Railways website for the latest structure.
